Happy International Women’s Day! 🌍

Today, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the incredible women who are changing the VC game, from building groundbreaking startups to leading top VC firms. But first, let’s celebrate YOU. 👏

Here at Girls Into VC, we value having the boldness to support visionary founders, amplify diverse voices, and break down barriers. And we can’t think of a better time than today to remind you that you are part of something bigger than yourself. You are part of a movement to create a more inclusive VC industry, one where everyone gets a seat at the table.

Why We Celebrate Women in VC Today 🌟 

We have so much to celebrate, but there’s still more work to do! Currently, women make up only 9% of venture capitalists, 8% of firm partners, and 7% of board seats at firms. To put this in perspective, the 30-year average of all-female founders’ share of VC funding is just 2.4%. And this number is decreasing with this time!

While these numbers highlight the challenges women face, they also serve as a powerful reminder of the opportunity to create lasting change. The future of venture capital is not set in stone! You have the chance to shift these statistics and build a more inclusive and dynamic VC landscape.

Take it from these women who are absolutely crushing it in VC:

  • Aileen Lee is a U.S. VC Angel Investor who founded Cowboy Ventures and coined the iconic term "unicorn.”

  • Ophelia Brown was named “the most ambitious female VC in Europe” and co-founded Blossom Capital, which has raised $1B since launch

  • Arlan Hamilton is the founder of Backstage Capital, which invests in underrepresented founders, making sure their voices are heard

  • Jess Lee joined Sequoia Capital as an investing partner in 2016, becoming the firm’s first senior female U.S. investor in its 44-year-old history
